Life in the Pantanal follows the flow of its water levels. Times of long-lasting high-level waters rapidly increase the growth of impenetrable vegetation.

To survive, the Pantaneiro must willingly integrate with nature, which provides him food, medicine, tools, and shelter with what’s at hand. He must also be able to bear extreme solitude.
